Big Idea 1 : The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life.
Evolution is a change in the genetic makeup of a population over time from natural selection. Darwin’s theory, which is shown proven with evidence from many scientific disciplines, states that inheritable variations occur in individuals in a population. Due to competition for limited resources, individuals with more favorable variations or phenotype have a much higher chance of survival and producing offspring. Meaning, this allows passing traits to future generations.
